Scorpions Leaving Sarasota
The 2010 RIFL Champion Scorpions announced Tuesday
evening that they will not be defending their title in Sarasota. The team
announced that the team name will change to the Florida Scorpions,
effective immediately, and that they are hammering out final details with
a new east coast Florida city to call home. They hope to have the final
details worked out within the next two weeks. Scorpions GM Alton Walker
said "It's all but a done deal. We just have a few minor details to
finish up and then we will make the announcement." The team faced
many obstacles while in Sarasota during their tenure there. Scorpions
Public Relations Director Ray Damon added "We won't be back. The
media down here just didn't take to us. We did a lot in the community and
never wanted to be patted on the back for it. But the media was just
brutal. We couldn't get coverage no matter what we tried. A semi-pro team
and the local roller derby teams received more coverage then we did. I
even offered several times to give rides to people to cover our events but
nobody would come out. With that being said I do want to thank WTMY radio.
They were great to us while we were there. Ozzie The Sports Junkie and
Rene, Curt Lowe, all of them were great and tried very hard to get us the
coverage we needed. Ozzie is a great guy. They were on board with us but
nobody else was. BLAB TV tried to help us as well. I want to thank both of
them for what they did for us. The people at WTMY are great people and we
had a lot of fun with them. But it just wasn't enough. This is a business
and the media can make or break a business. In my personal opinion, other
then who I just mentioned, they broke us. We made a lot of good friends
here and we will be staying in touch with them."

Scorpions
Crowned RIFL Champs
The Sarasota Scorpions have been crowned the 2010
Regional Indoor Football League Champions. The Scorpions went undefeated
on the year and ended the season with a shutout against the Delmarva
Bayriders. The defense posted 4 shutouts in 5 games. Sarasota GM Alton
Walker said "It was a great showcase season for the RIFL. After
everything that happened at the beginning of the season, we were able to
continue on and get through it. The Sarasota Scorpions are very proud to
be the first RIFL Champions." The Scorpions want to thank all of our
fans that supported us this season. Your support means a great deal to the
team. The Scorpions are very excited about what is to come in 2011 with
the RIFL, new opponents, and a full schedule. "Next year is going to
be awesome all the way around", Walker said. "And the Scorpions
will be a force to be dealt with in the RIFL." League Partner Ray
Damon added "We have definitely had a roller coaster ride this year
with lots of ups and downs. But overall we are now in a great position as
a league and I look forward to see if the Scorpions can dominate again
next season." Damon then asked RIFL Commissioner Earl Christy for his
thoughts. "This is a first class organization from the front office
to the players. It certainly wasn't easy this year but these guys got it
done anyway." When asked what advice he would offer to the Scorpions
Christy smiled and said "The only thing better then winning, is more
winning!"
